ERACE: Education Reform for Anti-Racist Curricula and Equality
We are dedicated to developing and promoting anti-racist curricula in our public school systems to ensure that students gain a better understanding of racial issues and are able to be better allies to People of Color.
Our goals:
- To reform public school curricula, specifically in History and English courses.
- To educate students about the contributions and struggles faced by People of Color in American society.
- To incorporate literature and other works, both about racism and not, written by People of Color into the public education system to amplify their voices.
- To inform students about both larger systemic racism and less-known racial conflicts throughout American history (i.e. the Tulsa Massacre- the 1921 attack on African-American businesses, homes, and institutions by a white mob in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At the time, this was the wealthiest African-American community in the United States).
- To revise the portrayal of certain figures throughout American history who have been glorified despite their racist and/ or colonialist actions or have been overlooked because of their race
